About
Native to south-western Europe, the piorneira is an evergreen shrub with slender green stems, resistant to severe droughts. It is a toxic plant due to the alkaloids it contains in all its tissues. As a legume, it fixes nitrogen and enriches degraded soils in the shrub layer.
